THE BEAUTY OF GUWAHATI CITY

The Sunday Fun in Guwahati

The first official outing/short day trip of 2019 from a few week I was thinking of going somewhere . My mind after the bad result of Jee mains paper 1 got so jam I thought no now I have to relax it.  So I decided to visit the place where I was thinking from quite a long time now. Till yesterday night I was not sure I will go or waste my time in my room. But my friend too insisted that I should go and she too would go with me as she too wanted to go.

Now this was the back story and the reason why today I went outside. Now lets end the boring part and start with the places and the experiences that we had today.

The Deepor Beel

The journey started from  Bhangaghar, Guwahati . At around 10:45am . And we hopped onto the bus and went till Jalukbari, Guwahati  since today it was Sunday , traffic was quite less on the road. After Jalukbari, Guwahati we went to Rani a place on the suburban side of Guwahati on a tempo (magic) . Then we reached there by 11:45am . We both dint had breakfast so we both took some food on a nearby restaurant it was named Shanghai Restaurant. I cannot tell the place to be great but it was like OK place and compared to the other 'Chai dukans' it was quite clean and standard.  After that we both hopped onto an e-rickshaw and reached.
The largest lake in the entire Guwahati and the entire North East India
Afternoon at Deepor Beel
I would tell you earlier. Don't get onto the e-rickshaw if the rickshaw is empty and there are not many passenger to go to Deepor Beel.  I suggest you take a cab to go there as I paid 100bucks on e-rickshaw but while returning the cab charged only 90bucks.
The beautiful view of the Deepor beel, Guwahati
Beautiful Nature
So I would not suggest you to go on e-rickshaw. After we reached the beauty of the place just awwed us.  The place is so beautiful , the natural landscape along with the beel(lake)  in front of us it is just mesmerizing. The place is a very known picnic spot for the people from the city and outside too.  It is bird scantury and the different migratory birds that come to the place are just breathtaking. There is an observation tower but I would tell you.  You better go towards the electricity tower from there the view is like 'paisa wasul' the money and time took to reach there was worth it.
Greenery surrounding the beautiful lake Deepor Beel, Guwahati
Cool shade
The train line across the road from the observation tower gives a different and cool vibe to the place. The place is truly beautiful.  Any nature lover would love the place no doubt on that. The place do have places where you can eat some food like Parathas, Pithas, and some local food. Tea stalls are in few there and you can even drink coconut water as there are people selling it.

The magnificent landscape of The Deepor Beel, Guwahati
The beauty of Depoor Beel

And in summer the number of coconut water sellers also increase. So this place is a complete natural wonder . I suggest everyone to visit this place at least ones. So that you can be close to Mother Nature.

Dr Bhupen Hazurika Samadhikshetra:

After returning from Deepor Beel this was the place where we opted to visit.
The cremation of the legendary singer Dr Bhupen Hazurika
This was one of the place where I thought of visiting but due to urgency I could never visit the place.  This place is right on the busy junction hub of road on Jalukbari, Guwahati  near Guwahati University East gate.
Painting inside the memorial of the Great singer in Guwahati

The roof of the memorial house of Dr Bhupen Hazurika Samadhikshetra, Guwahati
This place is made beautifully to pay a tribute to the legendary singer and the pride of our Land Dr. Bhupen Hazurika. His contribution to the Assamese music and representation of Assam in a global scale any thing done for him is less but the tribute is a quite magnificent way to show the gratitude towards the Late. Legend .
The memorial house with the cremation spot in front
The place is quite beautifully built, it has running fountains, statue of Late.  Dr Bhupen Hazurika, an artificial waterfall, a huge Museum and garden. This place is very good to bring kids who can learn about the legacy of this great man. The Museum is the central and most prominent structure of the Samdhikshetra.
The side view of the memorial house of the Great man
The architecture of the Museum is very beautiful and catches your attention instantly.  Inside the museum there stays the pictures of the life of the Legendary Singer it is 2 storied but on the top the showcases are left empty.
This thing disappointed me a bit on the whole place.
I wondered a Legend like him don't have things that can be displayed there or can't they make something to show the love towards the Legend.
The water fall of life symbolizes that what happens in life it goes on in its on path
The best part of the place is that it is free to enter . On a whole this place is one should always put in to the Bucket list .Whenever they are traveling to Guwahati.

Kite and River Festival

On the way back from the Samadhikshetra I remembered that from today we have the the 7th Jeevan kite and River festival.
The beautiful bank of Brahmaputra river on the sunset of kite festival with the many people
Sunset in the kite and
River festival
The festival is held on Machkhoa , Guwahati  river bank.  So we went there the arrangement was quite good.  I've never been to this festival before so I won't be able to say whether it was better or worse than last years . But what I saw according to that it is quite a place to visit.  If you are in Guwahati you can visit the festival it will be going on till 31st of January and the entry fee is 20 bucks.  The money is not the thing with that you will get an experience which you will remember for a long time.
The festive atmosphere of the kite festival in Guwahati
The sunset at kite
Festival
There are kite stalls where you can buy a kite and relive your childhood as children today don't play with kites anymore like us back in our days.  So bring your children here if you want them to see how magnificent it is and you too can relive your childhood. There are food stalls where you can binge.  I didn't eat there so I'm not able to say whether it is cheap or not.
People enjoying the festival of kite and river in Machkhoa Brahmaputra Bank
Evening at kite fest
But i think it won't be that cheap as stalls in this kind of festivals charge more than usual. But again eating at the bank of Brahmaputra on the river sand how many times will you get the opportunity. So I would insist that everybody please visit this festival if you are in Guwahati . I say you won't regret it.  But one thing think before you bring your car if you do so your car can get stuck on the river sand as I saw two cars got stuck on the sand while entering as well as while leaving.

So that's all for today guys hope you like it.
Please  share it and don't forget to follow and subscribe. For more content like this. And please share your valuable comments.

TOP 6 SHOPPING DESTINATION IN GUWAHATI- SHOPPING IN GUWAHATI

Top 6 Shopping  destination in Guwahati - Shopping in Guwahati

Guwahati being the Gateway of North East India and the biggest town in North East India have a lot of places for shopping. It is natural that if you are going to some places you will be getting indulged in this activity called shopping.  I personally like shopping at a new place as it let's me to know about the people and the things that are used by the locals.  And knowing the places for shopping is a key.  If you are here in Guwahati and go in this places for shopping I hope you will be pleased and will buy a lot of things for your friend,  family and yourself too.
(Disclaimer : All the places that I'm saying here are totally my choice and no company or business firm have not paid me to write about them)

The following places are my suggestions to all my shopping readers to visit ones if they are Guwahati:

  • Fancy Bazaar

This is the largest market place in entire North East  India.  Fancy bazaar is a shopping Paradise for people who are looking for good product and has the talent to bargain prices it is a win-win for them . This place has to offer you a large variety of things ranging from electronics ,clothes, utensils, street food, footwear, organic flowers and many more. I would like to warn you earlier itself if you are weak at bargaining this place can take of your money. But there are places in fancy bazaar too where you can find hardcore stuff with less of your money stripped from you . I personally go to that place whenever I get time to visit Fancy Bazaar. You cannot search this place in Google map as the road is not added.  But you can search for Kamarpatti Masjid in Google maps or you can reach the Gurudwara In fancy bazaar and go towards North and the Mosque that you find at your right after walking for like 15m you can go through the narrow passage and see the magnificence of the place. You can find cheap things there.  And I would try to add the road in google then you can search right away in Google

The largest open market not only in Guwahati but in entire North East India
You can reach this place by Bus if you are coming from Khanapara, Guwahati take the bus then land on Lakhtokia, Guwahati  and you will reach the place. If from coming from Beltola side hop onto the bus and get down on Vishal ,Paltan Bazaar,Guwahati and if you are coming from Jalukbari, Guwahati side you can directly reach Fancy Bazar, Guwahati.

  • Ganeshguri

This place is quite smaller as compared to Fancy Bazaar, Guwahati considering its market size but it too have a substantial potential for a good shopper. This place is too for people who can bargain a lot.  This place is rather good for a quick stop for you if looking for a quick shopping experiences.
Placed in the heart of Guwahati
You can see everything here ranging from clothes to footwear. Unlike Fancy Bazaar, Guwahati this is the connecting link in Guwahati you can get into any bus and reach this place except one that goes to Narengi. This place has a Vishal Mega Mart.  And lots of local vendors. You can also buy hardware stuff in Ganeshguri, Guwahati.

  • Big Bazaar

This place is becoming the landmark of Bhangaghar, Guwahati now. This is one of the best place you want a supermarket experience. You can see its rush on sunday evening,  During my time in the coaching I might have visited this place more than 100times. You can get all your needs in this one place.  They have everything I don't think so i have to say alot about Big Bazaar everyone knows about it but still if some people who don't know.  It has products ranging from clothes to food electronics to stationary they started providing bicycles too.
The best and most visited mall in Guwahati
I personally love this place. But this place is not ultra cheap which will be coming later in the blog so keep reading. You can reach here by bus no 13 and 02 up or down . This is right into the heart of Bhangaghar,Guwahati . I hope you like the visit here. There is only one Big Bazaar in Guwahati.

  • Vishal Mega Mart

There are  four of this bad boys in the Guwahati.  One in Paltan Bazar, Guwahati(the largest and the oldest) ,another at Ganeshguri, Guwahati, another one in Bamunimaidan, Guwahati  and the last smallest and newest one in Kalapahar, Guwahati. This place is a big daddy if you say of cheap things.  There are cheap clothes cheap household things just like Big Bazaar, Guwahati clothes, stationary, electronics it just lacks the bicycle.
The cheapest best shopping center in Guwahati
If you are a single guy living in a rent this place is your heaven, I personally bought a lot of things for my rent at my time in Guwahati. The only downside is that the quality.  The quality is OK but not like high class.  If you are looking for cheap  'jugadu' Things you can use in day to day life and you have to save your pocket money this place is your saviour. But if you want good quality things here hardly you would find something. Still this place is worth your time. I would recommend you to visit this place there are three of  them so you can visit any one of them.  You can get into any city bus of Guwahati to reach there directly except buses to Narengi, Guwahati.

  • Brand Factory

This place might have the largest collection of fashion according to my knowledge after Guwahati Central. This is a branch of the Future Group the firm which run both Big Bazaar and the Central chain. It has a lot of variety in terms of the quantity of the clothes that it has to offer. This place being at the heart of the Guwahati, city is not much popular to tourist and people who are new to Guwahati. I think its location is the biggest culprit followed by lack of marketing and its placement as it is hard to notice at the fast glance in the Guwahati concrete jungle.  You can reach by aging the same buses that you need to reach Big Bazaar ,Bus no 02 & 13 .
This shopping centre runs offer through out the year in Guwahati
It is located behind the Lachit Nagar, Guwahati  Hanuman Mandir . I would recommend you all to visit this place if you are looking for branded clothes .

  • Guwahati Central

This place is quite misunderstood to Central Mall, Guwahati . But I would like to clarify that Central Mall, Guwahati and Guwahati Central are totally different and are located on two different places in Guwahati . Central mall, Guwahati is a mall with lots of store within it. Guwahati central might be largest supermarkets  for fashion in Guwahati. It has a enormous collection of clothes, footwear and accessories.  This is a premium place but also offers alot of discount.
The best place to buy clothes in the entire city of Guwahati
Anyone looking for branded stuff I insist you to visit this place.  It is 3 floor jam packed with fashion goodness. The ground floor houses the western wear for ladies, watches, perfumes and cosmetics. The second floor houses ladies footwear, ladies ethnics wears, ladies lingerie and handbags. The third floor is for men it has casual wear for men, sports wears and footwear for men. The third and final floor contains formal clothes for men, underwear, pajama,  formal footwear, and kids section.

That all guys for today this are my top suggestions for you to go shopping in Guwahati city. If you have anything to say about my blog please feel free to write in the comment section.

JEE IN GUWAHATI DURING BHARAT BANDH

JEE in Guwahati during Bharat Bandh

Yesterday (8/01/2019)

I was too appearing for the JEE mains like many other students. I will tell you my incidents what happends before and after the  exam.

  • Pre Exam Scenarios

I came to know about this Bandh before hand thankfully. So for that reason I decided that I will go to my friends place in Guwahati, Azara . I went there a day before the exam . But the journey there 'oh boy' it was not an easy one .  Because of the bandh the private city buses of Guwahati were not running and only the govt. city buses of Guwahati  were on the road.  But the bus stand was  flooded with people . It was like 3 times the people than normal that are seen in typical Guwahati bus stand.  I waited there and buses packed with people passed and some people were like just barely attached their body with one foot on the bus and hand grabbing some part of the bus.  Lucky a city bus came in and stopped and the people decreased from the bus and I hopped onto the city bus and it got full to its brim again.  I was worried about my wallet nothing else as it had my pan card and my admit card . So I took the wallet and kept it in my hand and people there were like literally crushing each other.  But luckily after reaching Manipuri Basti, Guwahati I saw a man getting out of his seat so I was like determined that I will get that seat because if I stand there for too long I was bound to get crushed. So finally I got an small opening and hopped onto the seat.  The bus was also going at very lazy pase .  It was around 7:30pm after painstakingly doing the journey in Adabari, Guwahati again the bus stopped for refueling but that time I was like no it won't be I can't wait this long so I walked till Jalukbari, Guwahati  and then I hopped onto a tempo and reached my friend's place at Azara, Guwahati . Then the night was good we had some biriyani along with rice. And studied a bit for the exam.

Now yesterday it was exam time.  I thought that exam will be starting from like 12:30 pm but when I saw the time it was from 2:30pm and the gate  infact the closing time was at 2:00pm . So I thought even if I have to walk I will take around one hour for me to reach there.  But my friend said that he would borrow a friends scooty and drop me at the exam center .  But his friend denied as there were incidents where the protesters threw stones at the vehicles and even burnt at some places.  "I can totally understand his mindset , I too might have done the same thing at that situation". And I thought the place might be strict so I like a big idiot went there just wearing just a t shirt, a jeans and hawai chapel. I left my friends place at around 1:06pm but I was not able to walk at my general speed as the pant was loose and I was wearing hawai chapels after a long time. I was still trying to go as fast as I can but it was not taking me that far at the speed required.  So  thought of asking for lift but few of them just brushed me off. Then a man came I asked if he was going the same way.  He said that he will go till Azara Godhuli Bazaar, Guwahati I said ok fine if it is even 100m that I don't have to walk its good. So I hopped on his bike . He asked where I was heading to I said him my condition and he asked me where is my center for the exam.  I said the place's name and he dropped  me there till the exam centre despite of the dangers.  He was like the real messenger send by God to me at my time of distress. Since I din't have the mobile with me I took his phone number on the cover of my geometry box.  But unfortunately during exam time the cover had to be torn to check the geometry box and with that that number was also gone.  I hope that I can meet that man and thank him in a better way which I was not able to do as I was in hurry for my exam.
Luckily my exam was decent and I will credit it to that man because if he might have not been there I might have not reach the exam centre.

  • Post exam scenarios
After the exam when I walked out of the exam centre I saw that there was facility to keep our bags.  I was so pissed at myself, I think I was the only in there with that attire. I was feeling so cold there . When I walked out of the gate I saw tempos standing there I thought the bandh is over.  But they were waiting for passenger I was feeling cold so I started walking and thought that I will get some vehicle on the way but none of the tempos were coming and few of them which  passes were with full passengers so I couldn't get onto those.  After walking for like 1km then I saw a tempo and waved my hand to stop him.  He pulled right the side of the road and I asked him will he be going  to Azara, Guwahati  or not he said yes . In delight I hopped onto the auto and reached my friends place in no time. I thought now the city buses might be running in the city.  So packed ASAP and headed towards the city.  But there too after waiting around half an hour I got a tempo.  I hopped onto it and thought my troubles were over.  But I was quite wrong. It was around 6:30 when I reached Jalukbari . I got down from the tempo and saw that there was no trace of any city bus.  I have called my friend earlier and he said that city buses were running at that time . So I came but now there was nothing. I was puzzled what to do so I thought I might be able to get bus at Adabari,Guwahati bus stand but there too no buses were about to leave all of those were standing ideally.  So I thought that getting a Rapido will help but it was too costly till my place. So I thought a friend place at Silpukhuri, Guwahati  might help. So I called the Captain (Rapido Rider) said he won't be going till Silpukhuri, Guwahati . I tried again but this time too it got connected to the same Captain. So I kept walking and trying but there was no progress at all.  Now it was around 7:35pm I was walking and trying to get a Captain but no one accepted my request.  Till then I had reached Maligaon charali, Guwahati . Then I checked the distance it showed 8.5km I was like no I  cannot cover this distance on foot and reach at proper time. It would be like more than 9:00pm to reach . So luckily i got an auto and asked till where he would go he said "Paltan Bazar " .I said "ok its fine" . But he informed me that he would take 20bucks I was like jumping in joy inside.  I said "ok! ok! let's go". So I got down at Food villa and then walked  till Silpukhuri and reached my friends place at around 8:30pm.
Today too I expected to get the bus easily but buses were so scarce I walked from my friends place to Post Office (Mizoram house)  then I got a bus where I could set my foot.  There were buses but if I would have got onto them I would be got crushed.  But finally I reached my room safe and sound.
Ok friends that all for today.  I wanted to share you my incident and my feelings. Sorry friend no photos this time since i din't carry my phone. And after the exam it was dark so please forgive me for that🙇.
Bye everyone take care.   See you next time on my blog.
PLEASE PRAY FOR MY RESULT 😂
Thank you

5 LESSER KNOWN PLACES GUWAHATI

Guwahati on foot

5 Lesser known places

Guwahati also called the 'Gateway of Northeast' is the largest city in the North Eastern part of India. I'm calling it city but people from bigger actual cities   will feel it more as a town. Since I'm from this area for me this is a city and since I have not been to any other big city other then Kolkata so please don't expect that I will put forward some comparison. Moreover this is my experience here in this city which have experienced here while walking on the streets of this city.

Places you should consider

I'm not going to tell you the conventional places like the great Maa Kamyakha temple, Digholi Pukhuri, Kalakshetra etc. But I will tell about you some of the little places which you will enjoy visiting . Which I found interesting while I was exploring the city. While I walked the city.
This are the few places that you should should consider:

  • Machkhowa Brahmaputra Bank:
This place is quite under looked but this place is magnificent. If you visit this place at late afternoon then it is great . The sunset here is just breath taking. The view of the hills,  the silhouette of the Saraighat Bridge gives a very great touch to this magnificent scenic beauty of the place. I'm quite positive either you are a single or in a couple both kind of the people will like it. The best part is this place can be reached free.  You can reach the place easily by foot from Fancy Bazaar its around 750 m from there. To get to the better place you can enter through the entry of Alfresco Grand  cruiser there is better as it allows outsiders and it has quite a long stretch  of bank so you can enjoy the walk . If you want to experience the Brahmaputra from its heart you can get onto a cruiser too.  This place is highly recommended not only to visitors but also people from Guwahati too as many people don't consider this place.

  • Assam State Museum : I visits this place quite often and all the time I'm so intrigued by looking at our past our great history. This place is quite under looked . It is great if you are looking for the past and the way of life of the people who lived in the region. This place in spite of being so cheap at 5 bucks an adult still it has so less visitors.  But I highly recommend this place to all of my readers, as it gives you the inside knowledge . The Museum is a three storied building in the left side of the ground floor it shows the magnificent and beautiful monolithic stone sculptures.( I personally have a question if anyone visits there "Can you tell me the reason why some of the Brahmin's eyebrows that resemble Asian eyebrows like those of Mongolian race others have more curved like that of Aryan race?"If anyone knows please tell me in the comment section).  OK now on the right side of the first floor first it houses war weapons from late medieval to World War II and then in the more interior you have stone carvings, coins and lot more and on the right on the first floor you can find the palm scriptures. On the first floor of central part you will see something which reminds me of my grandparents home during my childhood.  It is a model village it quite accurately represented. And a lot of other things I don't wanna tell all the parts and spoil the surprise factor now its up to you you can visit this place. Reaching this place is quite easy it is quite sure that you will visit the Digholi Pukhuri . To reach the Assam State Museum you just have to cross the road from its Southern gate and Ta-da you reached the Museum.

  • Sati Radhika Shaanti Udyan: This is another place on the bank of the mighty Brahmaputra unlike the Machkhowa River Bank it has places to seat.  This place is mostly known by locals. This place has  very beautiful views and it has trees which is what makes it ideal place to visit during summer.  This place is quite popular among couples. If you are visiting as a couple you must visit this place. You can reach this place within a 10 minute walk from Digholi Pukhuri you just have to take one left one right and one more right then walk straight until you reach the place at a slight right. If you are walking out of the Southern gate and walk left the above will be applicable.

  • GMCH HILL TOP Road:

This is a magnificent view point on the Hilly road of GMCH this place has many places from where you can see the Guwahati city.  Visit this place at night you can see the beautiful glittering city which will baffle your mind and you would love this place . If you fear heights, then still this place won't scare you as it doesn't have much steep falls so you won't feel much as the rise is gradual. I would recommend to visit this place alone, so that you can feel its peacefulness  but if you have a friend or girlfriend/boyfriend still this place is very great.  You can reach this place just by walking from GMCH straight towards the hill there is only on road. And for those who don't know what is GMCH it is Guwahati Medical Collage Hospital.

  • Gandhi Mandap:

This place houses the third tallest national flag in India. This place doesn't only have the flag but as the name suggest Gandhi Mandap so it has a big Statue of the 'Father Of Our Nation' Mahatma Gandhi it has dedicated museum for the great man. This place is on the top of Sarania hill. I won't recommend you to visit this place on foot unless you are a walking freak like me as this would leave your feet hurting you for the next day or two.  But if you can walk up the hill then you will have two experiences at ones one on reaching the place and one on the journey to the top.  The view from the Gandhi Mandap is magnificently cool . You can see almost see the entire Guwahati city but unluckily visiting this place at night is bit problematic but still if you manage to visit  at night you can see the magnificence of the city, first hand. Unlike the GMCH hill top road I would recommend you to go with someone if you are walking up the hill.  As it will cut the journey stress and enjoy the beauty .  But this place is not recommended for people with fear of heights.  You can reach this place by walking through the South Sarania Hill road it will swirl you to your destination.

And many more

Guide for walking on foot

Since love walking I will like to give you readers some tips that will help you to enjoy the beauty of a place from the closest way possible . As nothing can make you more close to the place then walking through the place you can actually experience much more then it meets the eyes.  But walking on foot for all over the city is not not possible . Still you can take a public transport and reach popular landmarks like Digholi Pukhuri , Fancy Bazaar etc.

Tips on exploring on feet:
  • Keep GPS handy.  Keep your smart phone with bit of charge on it.
  • Find the shortest route possible not only the suggestion by google but also by analysis the map itself.
  • Always ask the shopkeepers not the pedestrians if you want some help . You never know what are the intentions of that person and moreover shopkeepers are generally locals so they have better knowledge about the place.
  • Try to avoid exploring new roads at late night especially when you are alone. Because safety is the priority.  You may end up into some problem.
  • Try to notice the small details that are there. So that you can experience the magic of the place. Try to feel the culture that have evolved in the city.
  • Keep your phone/camera handy so that you can click some breath taking pictures capturing the raw essence of the place.

My story exploration on feet :

I was not always that of a exploring junkie like this. Actually at my early teen I was quite a person who would stay at home and do my studies. But when I came to Guwahati  to do coaching after my intermediate  like other students of since aspiring to be something in future but after attending few classes it seemed quite boring and one day I thought of bunking the class and see for myself how is life outside. I bunked the class that day and I went under a flyover and sat there. I didn't  have anything to do so I sat there more than a couple of hours and my mind too was quite jumbled up thinking about the future what will  happen to my life and all those things. But while sitting there I saw an old man laying by the on the pavement . I saw that man was quite dirty too but I didn't judge him rather I just imagined one thing that changed my perspective to see the world.  I thought that we are from well to do families and we think we have so much worries in life our future. In this peruse of our life we forget how people are surviving and are happy with so little things we are quite lucky. If we move pass the people without noticing them their life the way these people live their life from that day and don't learn from them  how happiness is not with materialistic things. I   felt at that place how lucky  and now I admire my life rather then just wishing to be something that will be in future. We should think of future but not so much that it consume our present . So this is my conclusion hope you like it.

" Notice the path not the destination because destination is seen by everyone but noticing the path and appreciating it is done by very less".

"So walk as much as you can, as long as you can and feel the place equally"

" I didn't say you should bunk your class but it was my story"
